Research shows that cycling is multiple times safer and less dangerous than driving. Driving is riskier than biking and has a higher injury/death rate than the latter. Are you guys willing to cycle more than to drive one day? Edited by SSJSC, Oct 22 2014, 03:04 AM.

Confession Time: I never learned how to ride a bike in my life. But if I did know hypothetically, I would take it over driving a Car. |

HELL NO. I need to drive. I love driving. If I can't drive, I go insane, more than I am now. It's my unmistakable right as an American, you hear me?! Riding a bike is fine, but I wouldn't take it over driving. Ever. Edited by Pyrus, Oct 22 2014, 05:30 AM.

Not were I live. Not where my work is. Riding a bike to work everyday in this town is the most dangerous thing a person can do. If I were up for having to wear reflective gear, flashing lights, protective gear, and leaving an entire 2 hours in advance to arrive to work then yeah i'd probably bike. http://www.kvue.com/story/news/2014/05/25/2443568/ |

If my city wasn't a s*** pile, and the risk of getting robbed and shot wasn't so great, I wouldn't mind riding my bike to work once in a while. |

If they made bikes that somehow at least doubled your travel speed I'd never get a car but of course depending on distance they don't always get you to where you need to go in record time. And seats that inject painkillers in your butt cheeks because OW after a long cycle. |

Almost no driver cares about the risk of driving. |

In my hometown in Australia, no I wouldn't. Urban sprawl in Perth means that you're better off getting by in your own car (or if you're lucky, public transport). In Japan (or at least from what I've seen in Kyoto anyway,) it's pretty bicycle friendly in that the terrain is all flat - no steep hills or anything of the sort that would make it a nightmare to get around on bicycle. My only criticism being that people don't seem to want to use their bell when they want to get past you for any time except when you're the only person around and there's ample room for cyclists to get around you >_> |

I don't think that would be a good idea. The speed we have for cyclists right now is totally normal. Anything faster than that can increase the chances of an accident or injury. Edited by SSJSC, Oct 22 2014, 02:13 PM.

from what i've been told, driving almost seems like a necessity for a lot of americans since it's so goddamn big and everything's so far apart. it's not like in england where work is only 10-20 miles away and you can just take public transport (thx u, tfl). it's all well and good trying to be healthy or taking a supposedly safer route to work, but if it's going to take you 938092893048209342 hours then yyyyyyy do dat Edited by Buuberries, Oct 22 2014, 04:54 PM.

Well of course but I'm sure people would get used to it there's a lot more sensory feedback than in a car so I don't think it'd be that difficult. Plus there'd probably be a lot less drivers after the advent of such a wonderful technology. So long as you could use gears and go down to normal bike speed. |

I don't get all the hype with cars. A bike is quick enough for me and you actually lose some weight at the same time. It's very safe to ride a bike in my country, but I must say we do have bike lanes everywhere, if we wouldn't have them then it wouldn't be so safe. The cars are also more used to bikes here and kids are being taught how to ride a bike in traffic since they're little kids so both drivers and bikers know how to navigate through traffic along each other. Pretty much depends on what country you live in, if you live in Europe where cities are tightly connected and the distance to your work is very small, then cyclists will be present more and it's smarter to take a bike. If you live in America or Australia I probably wouldn't do it. I couldn't go without my bike, I don't do any sports or go to the gym so riding 14km on a bike everyday is nice exercise. |
